Anglicans form a community of Christians in Aotearoa New Zealand, inheriting the Church of England tradition brought here by missionaries in 1814.
Today our Anglican Church operates in three tikanga or cultural pathways (Maori, Pakeha and Pacific) across New Zealand and the South Pacific.
The
Anglican Diocese of Waiapu is one of seven regions or Dioceses of the Anglican Church in New Zealand - the other Dioceses are those of Auckland, Waikato, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch and Dunedin.
The
Diocese of Waiapu covers 39,000sq kilometres of the Central and Eastern North Island, from the Kaimai Ranges to the Tararua Ranges.
Our name means 'abundant waters' and is given to us by the river that flows under Mt Hikurangi on the East Coast, where Anglican mission began in the 1830s.
Our Diocese has 40 local parishes and some 60 congregations in every community throughout:
Hawke's Bay
Eastland
Bay of Plenty
Social service is seen as a fundamental part of the church's mission.
The diocese holds together a wide range of Christian belief, working in partnership with Tikanga Maori.
Our ethos values generosity, hospitality and an accepting community, welcoming to people of all backgrounds..
